About FootyCalc

Our Mission

Measuring a room should take 30 seconds, not 30 minutes. Most online calculators bury the answer under ad clutter, force you to sign up, or use inconsistent formulas. We built FootyCalc to fix that. Our tools are designed around three principles:

1. Zero friction. The result appears the moment you type. There are no "Calculate" buttons, no captchas, and no email signups.
2. Honest accuracy. Every formula is sourced from published standards. We cite the sources on every page where it matters.
3. Mobile-first. More than 60% of our visitors use phones. Every input is big, every tap target is at least 48 × 48 pixels, and every page passes Core Web Vitals.

How Our Calculations Are Verified

We independently verify every formula against authoritative sources:

• Area formulas follow the CRC Standard Mathematical Tables, 31st edition.
• Home measurement standards follow ANSI Z765-2021 (American National Standards Institute) for residential floor area.
• Unit conversion factors use the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 811.
• Flooring and tile waste factors are calibrated against the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) and Tile Council of North America (TCNA) guidelines.

We update this page whenever a calculator or methodology changes, with the date clearly shown at the top of every article.

Who Builds This

FootyCalc is an independent publication owned and operated by Richard Taylor, based in Juneau, Alaska. Richard has more than a decade of experience in front-end performance engineering and building measurement-related tools. Our content is reviewed against field practice — waste factors, ANSI Z765 measurement rules, and material estimations — so the guidance on this site matches what professionals actually do on site.

How We Make Money

This site is free to use. We cover hosting and development costs with Google AdSense. Ads are clearly labeled and never interfere with the calculator itself. Your Privacy

Your measurements never leave your browser — everything is computed locally in JavaScript. We do not store calculation history, and we do not use analytics beyond standard server logs and the AdSense SDK. You can decline cookies at any time using the banner at the bottom of every page.
